The Best of the Best | Best out of International and New Zealand Chardonnays.

We are excited to announce that the 2016 Plume Chardonnay has been named number one in the recent Cuisine Chardonnay tasting beating all other International and New Zealand Chardonnays.

With numerous other Gold medals associated to this special drop, this is another great accomplishment for our winemaker Chloe Gabrielsen and the whole team at Lake Chalice.

Making the Plume Chardonnay:

The fruit was hand-harvested and then gently whole bunch pressed to tank before immediately going to barrel. It spends very little time in the tank – only hours, compared to days settling for our other parcels. The wine then goes through a wild primary fermentation followed with a wild malolactic fermentation, where it is stirred on its lees before completion and then left to settle naturally in barrel for close to 10 months.

Creating this special release Chardonnay was less work, more play. Aromatic notes of popcorn, toasted hazelnuts and spice are followed through on the palate along with a subtle flinty character. Silky and luscious with a fine acid drive and good length, this wine is proving to be a favourite for any Chardonnay drinker.

This wine is a truly unique and very special drop and has now been recognised with such high regard on both the national and international stage, and we couldn’t be more proud. Congratulations to Chloe and the rest of the Lake Chalice team.
