Lake Chalice are delighted to announce they are the winner of the Antipodes Water Trophy for Champion Riesling for their Lake Chalice The Falcon 2020, at the Royal Easter Show Awards 2021.

The show is the longest-running wine competition in New Zealand and received just over 900 entries this year. The objective of the competition is to provide consumers with a comprehensive assessment of currently available New Zealand wines by style and quality.

This year’s judges were Jane Cooper – Chair of Judges with Mike de Garis assisting her as Deputy Chair, and Emma Jenkins MW as Guest Judge along with a contingent of highly respected judges from the New Zealand wine industry.

The Falcon is a medium-dry Riesling from our Walsh vineyard, Marlborough. A long, cool controlled fermentation using a dedicated aromatic yeast enhances the aromas and citrus characters. Its bouquet is ripe citrus notes of lime and lemonade envelope the nose, white, orange highlights of juicy mandarin in the background. The palate is inviting, supported well with fragrant ripe limes with a clean, fresh finish.
