Lake Chalice Wines is one of the few remaining family and locally owned wine companies in New Zealand and is located in the country's main wine-growing region, Marlborough.
Launched in 1989 on a 11ha (28 acre), stony paddock in the now famous 'Golden Mile', Lake Chalice Wines owns four key vineyard sites, as well as sourcing fruit from several carefully selected contract growers. Owners and viticulture pioneers Neal and Judy Ibbotson are supported by Phil Binnie, consultant and Matt Thomson and his winemaking team. Collectively they share a simple philosophy: to make quality varietal wines representing the Marlborough's unique regional diversity.
The Kārearea or New Zealand falcon is proudly represented on all Lake Chalice Wine labels. In a land with born with no native mammals, this rare, endemic raptor has always flown fearlessly above the rest. Lake Chalice Wines is a proud sponsor of the Wingspan Birds of Prey Trust, dedicated to preserving New Zealand's raptors.
“The 2015 The Nest Sauvignon Blanc has a yeasty nose over a core of ripe apples, fresh pears and orange blossom plus a waft of sage. Medium-bodied, it is both refreshing and understated compared to most of this region's offerings with a touch of minerality to the long finish.”
