Lake Chalice Wines is one of the few remaining family and locally owned wine companies in New Zealand, located in the country's main wine-growing region - Marlborough.
Beginning in 1989 on an 11ha (28 acre) stony paddock in the heart of the Wairau Valley, today Lake Chalice Wines owns four unique vineyard sites from rich silty flood planes to deep clay valleys. Owners and viticulture pioneers Neal and Judy Ibbotson are supported by Head Winemaker Matt Thomson and his internationally experienced team. Collectively they share a simple philosophy: to make quality varietal wines representing the best of Marlborough's unique regional diversity.
The Kārearea or New Zealand falcon is proudly represented on all Lake Chalice Wine labels. In a land with born with no native mammals, this rare, endemic raptor has always flown fearlessly above the rest. Lake Chalice Wines is a proud sponsor of the Wingspan Birds of Prey Trust, dedicated to preserving New Zealand's raptors.
“The 2015 The Nest Sauvignon Blanc has a yeasty nose over a core of ripe apples, fresh pears and orange blossom plus a waft of sage. Medium-bodied, it is both refreshing and understated compared to most of this region's offerings with a touch of minerality to the long finish.”
