Sauvignon Blanc and now Pinot Noir wines from Marlborough, New Zealand,
have earned worldwide recognition for their zing and vibrant flavours, but other varieties
and styles also deserve attention.
We pride ourselves on producing high quality, varietal wines. Alongside
the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, all wearing the Lake Chalice Wines label, are
Chardonnay, Merlot, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Late Harvest or
Botrytised Riesling.
Two of our directors Matt Thomson and Chris Gambitsis are also our
winemakers ensuring a "hands on" approach. The wine is now made at South Pacific
Cellars, a joint venture winery. With our own barrels and tanks on site at this
state-of-the-art, 2500 tonne complex, we can enjoy the modern facilities and laboratory of
a large winery, while retaining the critical hands-on winemaking traditions of a boutique
business.
Look for the Lake Chalice Wines' distinctive label, featuring the rare,
endemic New Zealand falcon, karearea. We define "Platinum" as more like: single
vineyard, our own vineyards, top flight as well as made to be aged. The "Raptor"
label: small parcels of fruit, maybe from single vineyard, that stand out as excellent or
superior examples of a particular variety, in the past that has been Sauvignon Blanc, but
we don't see the Raptor label being limited to Sauvignon, there could be a Raptor Pinot
Noir in our future. |
